Home Education

Here at the Northwoods Wildlife Center we focus on wildlife rehabilitation, education and research. However it is through education that we are able to bring the most number of people into contact with wildlife and and hopefully increase awareness of wildlife and their needs.

To further that goal we offer tours of our facility and·permanent residents, and in-depth educational programs, both on and off site.

Our tours include reptiles, amphibians, raptors and scavengers. These tours are appropriate for all ages and are indoor/outdoor. Tours last 30 minutes and leave every half hour during our open hours. There is no admission cost, but donations are greatly appreciated. Below are our hours, but if you cannot make it during that time, please call us and we will be glad to try and arrange an appointment.

Educational Programs

Our educational programs are designed to be informational and interesting for all ages. Most programs are an hour long to include time for information, displays, audience participation, animal interactions, and questions. These programs are done regularly during the summer. Some descriptions are below.

Birds of Prey: 45-60 minutes longeducation-home

Unique adaptations help these special birds hunt and survive. Come learn about just a few. Meet one or two of our resident birds up close and personal!

Turtles: 45-60 minutes long

Turtles maybe slow, but they aren't boring.  Learn the ins and outs of turtles at this program.  Also meet a couple of our resident turtles up close and personal.  (Special appearance may be made by another type of reptile.)

Ecology Programs: 45-60 minutes long

The Northwoods is full of animal and plant diversity, and we explore that diversity every Tuesday. This summer we will be discussing everything from wolves to loons, bats to songbirds. Please check the calendar to see what we will be presenting this week.

Tours and Programs for Groups

If you are part of a large group such as a classroom, retirement community, bird watching club, or any other organized group and you would like to visit our facility or see a program please call us. We would be more than glad to work with you to set up a date and time.

Maybe however, you can't come to us. We can come to you! Our programs can be taken on the road, and we often visit schools, libraries, and club meetings.  Please contact NWC Education Staff to learn more about program options and pricing.

For those of you who are teachers, we also offer various programs for schools via Distance Learning through the ITV network.
